The interaction between natural and human systems is a two-way street; the impacts are jointly determined by what happens in both systems and the feedback loops that lead to adaptations and change. Understanding better how humans and environmental systems co-evolve–the likely direction and trends–is vital for allocating scarce resources to protect the earth.

Despite the confusion noticed in the former comments, I hink that this question is crucial and is poorly adressed unitl now. Probably the author should reformulate it in consideration of the comment.

This question certainly raises important considerations, but creates confusion potentially in its use of “adaptations” and “evolve” (another question does the same thing). This usage perhaps is not intended to correspond to standard use in the sense of evolution/natural selection/ adaptation. Instead, maybe it is more about changes in systems, and feebacks and so on. I’m not sure what is intended.
It’s an important distinction, because, as the recent science plan for the bioGENESIS program within DIVERSITAS demonstrates, there are lots of very important questions to be asked that relate to evolutionary patterns and processes.
